The Renewal of the Mind

Transformation is not the replacement of one set of opinions with another. It is the slow, deep renewal of how we see. Paul's command in Romans 12:2 is one of the most misunderstood verses in the New Testament. We read “do not be conformed” and think it is a call to cultural separation. But the command is deeper.
CONFORMITY AND TRANSFORMATION
Conformity is passive. It happens to you when you stop paying attention. You absorb the values of your environment simply by breathing its air. Transformation is active. It requires intention. It requires the deliberate renewal of the mind, replacing old patterns of thought with patterns shaped by truth. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” The word “transformed” is the same word used for Christ's transfiguration. It means a change that comes from within, a radiance that breaks through.
WHAT RENEWAL LOOKS LIKE
Renewal is not a single event. It is a daily practice. It is the slow accumulation of truth, absorbed over time, until the way you see the world begins to shift. Read slowly. Think honestly. Pray persistently. Live courageously. The mind that is renewed becomes a mind that renews, in its home, its work, its world.
